Why the ratio matters
A heat pump uses electricity but delivers more heat than the electricity it consumes. If electricity is much more expensive than gas, the heat pump needs a strong SCOP to compete.
The useful comparison is not one unit of electricity against one unit of gas. It is useful heat after SCOP and boiler efficiency.
